Hello Mr. Zismann. Thank you for taking the time to give us an insight into your experience with Product Information Management (PIM).

Andreas Zismann:

Hello. I'd love to. I would be delighted if our experience could also help other companies to tackle the issue properly. Which question do we want to start with?

Master PIM:

First of all, please tell us what made you decide to deal with the topic of PIM at all?

Andreas Zismann:

Our focus is the B2B market and we are dealing with customers of different types and sizes who also have different requirements for the product information we supply. As Funke GmbH, we have always stood for customer proximity. We guarantee that we only recommend those products to our customers that are really needed. This is a matter of honour for us and also a reason why we can look forward to so many long-term customer relationships. Exactly for this reason we are naturally endeavoured to meet the different requirements.

Master PIM:

What did this mean for your work in the past?

Andreas Zismann:

In the past we have had many experiences with other data maintenance. We can't maintain a lot of information in ERP and then had to touch everything several times to prepare the data for every purpose. We also contracted a service provider for the BMEcat conversion. Unfortunately, the price performance was not right. The result was often not right, and it was simply too expensive.

At the same time, we had to keep the data in the online shop www.funke24.com up-to-date and provide information for the closed sales platforms on which we are travelling. Within the range C-parts management the order handling must be uncomplicated, since many articles are lower by value, than the developed process costs.

Master PIM:

So at this point the decision for a central PIM had been made?

Andreas Zismann:

Yes, I do, actually. If you want to survive on the market in the future, you can't avoid a PIM system. And Master PIM is affordable. In this context, this convinced us to tackle the issue immediately.

Master PIM:

What does your work with Master PIM look like now?

Andreas Zismann:

ERP continues to be our leading system. However, there is no EAN maintenance, at most via special interfaces. And the ERP system does not allow data to be re-stored for customers. That's why we needed a system with various import and export options. Master PIM is the right system for this. With the blue and red catalogs we can see where something has changed - what is new, what is old. We export the data for our online shop, selected articles and selected manufacturers from Master PIM. In the PIM we also create the valid BMEcat files.

Master PIM:

Do you have further plans? Where do you want your PIM trip to go?

Andreas Zismann:

Of course. Now it really starts. We now have our product information centrally in one system - and in a proper standard. There are two big issues that we want to address next.

We will use the reference catalogs in Master PIM to create customized print catalogs. We then export the data from the PIM and automatically set the catalogs in Adobe InDesign. As an interface we probably use the Easy Catalog Plugin for InDesign.

The second topic is individual customer assortments in the online shop. We use the blue catalogs to build customer catalogs, which are then played into the online shop. [Editor's note: Reference catalogs in Master PIM are marked in blue] Thus each customer is only offered the assortment relevant to him after login. With the BUYER_AID field in BMEcat we can easily assign the respective article number of the customer to a catalogue, which makes order processing much easier for the purchasing department and the magazine.

Master PIM:

Ok. Now the big question: Would you choose Master PIM again?

Andreas Zismann:

Absolutely. Master PIM makes the introduction of a PIM system extremely easy, especially when a company is afraid of the costs involved in introducing a PIM system.
